Shakira has unexpectedly called off her concert in Washington D.C. following complications that also led to the cancellation of her show in Boston. The Colombian pop star was scheduled to perform as part of WorldPride, an important event for the global LGBTQ+ community.
A statement from Nationals Park, where the concert was to be held, cited issues with the transport of her equipment from the previous show in Boston due to time constraints. Shakira expressed her disappointment over the cancellation of both performances.
The singer acknowledged her excitement to reunite with her fans in Washington and Boston and vowed to make amends as soon as possible. The venue, Nationals Park, announced plans for automatic refunds for ticket holders.
The prior Boston performance at Fenway Park was cancelled just before Shakira’s set on 29 May, with additional cancellations affecting acts scheduled for 30 May. CBS News reported that the decision stemmed from safety concerns regarding the stage structure, which were discovered during a pre-show inspection.
Many fans, including those who had traveled from afar, expressed disappointment, while others voiced their support for Shakira amidst the unfortunate events. Despite this setback, Shakira is continuing her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in support of her latest studio album, with an upcoming performance in Atlanta on 2 June.
