The tragic killing of a young woman in Sicily by a stalker has shocked Italy, where 11 women have lost their lives since the beginning of the year.
Sara Campanella, a 22-year-old university student, was stabbed to death by an acquaintance in the Sicilian city of Messina on Monday afternoon.
Witnesses reported seeing a man, later identified as 27-year-old Stefano Argentino, approach Ms. Campanella and stab her on the street. Despite her efforts to flee and screams for help, she ultimately collapsed and later died on her way to the hospital.
Raffaele Leone, Mr. Argentino’s lawyer, stated that his client had admitted to the charges but did not provide any explanation for his actions.
The prosecutor in Messina, Antonio D’Amato, revealed that Stefano Argentino had persistently harassed Ms. Campanella since she started university two years ago. She was pursuing a degree in biomedical technology.
