A Chinese influencer residing in Taiwan faces deportation following the dissemination of videos supporting China’s potential forceful annexation of Taiwan. Taiwanese authorities have ordered the influencer, referred to as Liu, to leave the island by March 24 or be deported. Her visa, which allowed her to live in Taiwan as the spouse of a Taiwanese man, was revoked by the National Immigration Agency (NIA). The NIA stated that Liu’s advocacy for the abolition of Taiwan’s sovereignty is not acceptable in Taiwanese society.

Liu, known as Yaya on social media, frequently posts videos with her young daughter, expressing pro-Beijing views and referring to Taiwan as “Taiwan province,” in accordance with China’s narrative. China asserts its claim over self-governed Taiwan and has not ruled out military force. In response, Taiwan maintains its distinct identity from China.

Liu argued that peaceful unification is more challenging than forceful unification and depends on the choices made by the Taiwanese people. She defended her videos by stating that she aims to promote positivity and bridge the gap between people. However, her remarks have drawn criticism and condemnation from Taiwanese leaders, who argue that defending Taiwan’s sovereignty is essential.

Liu is among more than 400,000 Chinese spouses residing in Taiwan, whose activities are being increasingly scrutinized amid rising cross-strait tensions. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te recently announced measures to combat Chinese influence and infiltration on the island, including stricter control of cross-strait exchanges, which he believes China exploits to create divisions in Taiwan.
