Trump starts investigation on Brazil’s ‘unjust’ trading methods

The investigation will examine the Brazilian government’s policies regarding digital trade and electronic payment services, preferential tariffs, and corruption interference. This investigation aims to determine if these practices are “unreasonable or discriminatory and burden or restrict US commerce.” Additionally, US President Donald Trump has urged Brazilian authorities to drop their prosecution of the country’s former President Jair Bolsonaro, accusing them of conducting a “WITCH HUNT.” Trade Ambassador Jamieson Greer stated that the investigation was launched at Trump’s direction, focusing on Brazil’s attacks on American social media companies and other unfair trading practices that harm American companies, workers, farmers, and technology innovators.
