U.S. government under Trump stops supporting probes into alleged Russian atrocities

The United States government has stopped funding one program while leaving another. Both programs document alleged Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

The Trump administration cut funding for Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL), which had documented the mass deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.

Additionally, the US has withdrawn from a multinational group that was investigating the leaders responsible for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including President Vladimir Putin.

These actions follow Trump’s conversations with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine, deviating from the previous US administration’s approach to hold Putin accountable for the Russian invasion.
