On Saturday night, Russia executed a massive drone assault, resulting in civilian fatalities in various parts of Ukraine, according to officials.
Yuriy Ignat, the spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force Command, stated that a record 267 Russian drones were launched in a synchronized attack.
Out of these, 138 were intercepted by air defense, while 119 vanished from radars after being jammed and did not cause any damage.
Despite the interceptions, emergency services reported drone strikes that caused damage and fires in several regions throughout the night.
The attack occurred a day before the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The exact number of casualties is unclear, but initial reports from emergency services indicate at least three fatalities.
Two individuals, including a mother of twins, lost their lives in a strike on a residential building in Kherson, southern Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian state emergency services.
Additionally, regional authorities confirmed one man’s death and at least three injuries in Kryvyi Rih due to a strike.
Furthermore, a 53-year-old woman was hospitalized after sustaining injuries from a drone attack in Zaporizhzhia, and fire brigades were dispatched to quell multiple fires in the capital, Kyiv.
Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko informed through Telegram that the multi-wave drone attacks on the capital caused damage to houses and cars, but no immediate reports of injuries were received.
Drones were intercepted in at least 13 regions, including Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Mykolayiv, and Odesa, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The Ukrainian air force also reported that Russia launched three ballistic missiles during the night.
Meanwhile, Russia’s defense ministry announced on Sunday that 20 Ukrainian drones targeting Russia were destroyed overnight.
