The Prime Minister of Vanuatu has announced the cancellation of a passport issued to former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi. India had been seeking Modi’s extradition in connection with alleged corruption during his leadership in the IPL. Modi, currently residing in the UK, has continuously denied any wrongdoing. Vanuatu’s decision to revoke Modi’s citizenship comes after India confirmed his acquisition of Vanuatu citizenship. The cancellation is a relief to Indian authorities, as Vanuatu does not have an extradition treaty with India, making it difficult to bring Modi to justice.
