A massive landslide has occurred in Sudan’s Darfur region, resulting in the destruction of a village and leaving over 1000 people dead, according to a rebel group that controls the area.
The landslide took place in the village of Tarasin, located in the Marra Mountains, following days of relentless rainfall, as reported by the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army.
The rebel movement stated that there was a sole survivor in the devastated village.
“Initial information suggests the death of all village residents, estimated to be more than one thousand individuals, with only one survivor,” the group claimed.
They added that the village has been “completely leveled to the ground.”
The group has appealed to the United Nations and international aid organizations for assistance in recovering the bodies of the victims.
