A flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and climate activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, set sail from Barcelona on Sunday, en route to Gaza. Organized by the Global Sumud Flotilla, which aims to open a humanitarian corridor and bring attention to the Palestinian struggle, the 20-vehicle convoy left the Spanish coast cheered on by a large crowd of supporters. The flotilla, which has at least 200 people on board, includes Norwegian and Spanish activists, as well as former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau, Liam Cunningham of the Irish film “The Wind That Shakes the Barley,” and Spaniard Eduard Fernandez. Other boats will join from Italy and Tunisia in the coming days. The convoy plans to arrive in mid-September and start the fourth attempt this year to break the naval blockade of Gaza. The United States has reportedly considered intervening to supervise the war-torn coastal haven for up to a decade.
