On Tuesday, a 55-year-old man from Nepal, known as the “Everest Man,” made history by climbing Mount Everest for the 31st time, breaking his own record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak. This astonishing achievement took place during a climbing expedition for the Indian Army Adventure Wing Everest Expedition, led by the renowned Sherpa guide, Kami Rita.
Kami Rita, who was born in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal, first climbed Everest in 1994 while working for a commercial expedition. Since then, he has climbed the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) mountain almost every year while guiding clients. Seven Summit Treks congratulated him on his remarkable feat, marking the highest number of ascents by anyone in history.
Rita, who also authored a book on the challenges of climbing Mount Everest, expressed his contentment with the record but emphasized that his main goal is to promote Nepal’s recognition globally. He humbly mentioned that records are meant to be broken and that he finds greater joy in knowing that his climbs contribute to the international acknowledgment of Nepal.
The second on the list of most Everest climbs is Pasang Dawa, a fellow Sherpa guide who has completed 29 successful ascents of the mountain. The story was edited by Wesley Dockery.
