Airport Strikes Target Frankfurt and 10 More in Germany – DW – 03/07/2025

The trade union Verdi announced on Friday that workers at Frankfurt Airport and ten other German airports will enter a strike on Monday. Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, employs most of these workers who fall under collective wage agreements and are likely to participate in the strike starting at midnight (2300 UTC) on Monday.

Ground staff at the airport have also been urged by Verdi to join the strike on Monday.

“Warning strike” follows unsuccessful wage negotiations for public sector employees.

Industry Strike Causes Travel Disruptions

German airports have seen travel heavily disrupted due to ongoing wage disputes, as Verdi demands collective wage and bonus increases for its 2.5 million public sector workers. These demands include an 8% pay rise, additional bonuses, and three extra days off.

Local municipalities and the government have stated that Verdi’s proposals are not financially viable. Strikes have affected healthcare workers and kindergarten staff, and will continue into next week when another round of negotiations is scheduled.
