A Palestinian director who won an Oscar for his film was attacked by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank and was subsequently detained by Israeli troops. Hamdan Ballal, one of the co-directors of the documentary “No Other Land,” was injured along with three other Palestinians when settlers threw stones at their homes and cars. The Israeli military confirmed the arrest of three Palestinians and one Israeli but denied claims that Ballal was taken from an ambulance. Ballal’s co-director, Basel Adra, posted that Ballal remains missing after being taken away by soldiers. The film, which documents the demolition of Palestinian villages, won the Oscar for best documentary and has caused controversy in Israel. Adra suspects the attacks may be a response to the film’s international acclaim.
