On Sunday, law enforcement officers in Britain apprehended five men who are suspected of terrorism offenses. Four of these men are of Iranian descent, while the nationality of the fifth remains to be determined.
The individuals, whose ages range from 29 to 46, were taken into custody in London, Swindon, and Greater Manchester over allegations of plotting a potential attack on a specific location, according to a statement from the London Metropolitan Police.
They are currently being held under suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism head Dominic Murphy noted the rapid progression of the investigation and stressed their cooperation with those at the affected site for updates.
Murphy also indicated that the investigation is still in its infancy, with ongoing efforts to understand any potential motivations and to assess if there are further risks to the public connected to this case.
Search operations are underway in the Greater Manchester, London, and Swindon areas as part of the ongoing investigation.
