US influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have departed Romania for the US following the lifting of a travel ban against them, as reported by Romanian media on Thursday. The Tate brothers have faced accusations of human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, allegations they have consistently denied.
Romania’s G4Media.ro cited sources at the airport saying that the Tates departed Bucharest’s Baneasa airport on Thursday morning on a private plane bound for Florida. Prosecutors confirmed that the siblings are no longer required to remain in Romania, although they must still report to judicial authorities when summoned.
The request to lift the travel restrictions on the Tates was reportedly made, but the identity of the person who made it has not been disclosed. Last week, the Financial Times reported that US officials had contacted Romanian authorities, requesting the restrictions on the Tates be lifted.
In late 2022, the Tates were arrested near Bucharest along with two Romanian women, all accused of setting up a criminal organization that sexually exploited 34 women. In August 2024, Romanian police raided properties belonging to the brothers. The Bucharest Court of Appeal overturned a ruling that allowed the Tates to travel freely within the European Union in July. Additionally, a UK court ruled in December 2023 that British police could seize over 2 million pounds from the Tates and a woman referred to as “J.” over tax evasion allegations.
