A train derailed in Russia’s Bryansk region, which is situated near the border with Ukraine, late Saturday night after a bridge collapsed due to an explosion. According to Alexander Bogomaz, the regional governor of Bryansk, seven individuals lost their lives as a result of the collapse, which occurred in the Vygonichskyi district close to a federal highway. Over 60 people sustained injuries, including three children, with one in critical condition.
The train had been en route to Moscow from Klimov when it veered off its tracks. Attacks on ferroviaire infrastructure resulted in the train’s derailment. However, this statement was later removed and the regional governor confirmed reports of an explosion at that bridge shortly afterward. Russia’s Investigative Committee stated that the collapse of a road bridge occurred due to a blast in Bryansk at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday. The incident site is about 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, with no response yet from Ukraine.
In the border region of Kursk, another bridge collapsed, and investigators believe that the incidents were acts of terrorism. Both collapses occurred near the Ukrainian border, with local authorities claiming that the railway tracks were targeted by a blast. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine started three years ago, Russia’s border regions, including Bryansk, have faced border shelling, drone strikes, and covert raids from Ukraine.
