Primark’s Growth and Controversies
Marchant had been in charge of Primark since 2009 when it first entered the German market.
The Irish retail chain now operates over 450 stores in 17 countries across Europe and the United States.
Primark’s success can be attributed to its very competitive pricing and trendy appearance. However, its low prices have also drawn criticism.
The fast fashion retailer has previously faced criticism for the poor working conditions in its manufacturing facilities. The brand was linked to the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh in 2013, where over 1,000 people lost their lives.
