Charles III to Welcome Donald Trump at Windsor Palace in September – DW – 14/07/2025

Donald Trump is scheduled to make an unprecedented second state visit to the United Kingdom in September. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host the U.S. president from September 17th to 19th.

According to a statement issued by the palace, King Charles will host Trump and his wife at Windsor Castle. The invitation is seen as a strategic move by the British government to maintain close ties with Trump, as no other American president has received such an invitation twice.

The invitation was extended through a personal letter from the monarch, which was delivered to Trump by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a visit to Washington D.C. in February. At the time, Trump called the invitation a “great, great honor.”

Unlike French President Emmanuel Macron, who addressed the British Parliament during his recent state visit, Trump is not scheduled to speak to the House of Commons, which will be in recess during his visit. While the visit will feature a full royal ceremony, it is also expected to draw protests, similar to what happened in 2019.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized the UK’s invitation, saying it undermined his government’s efforts to project a united front against Trump’s comments about annexing Canada. King Charles is also the head of state for Canada.

This is the second time Trump will be receiving a state visit invitation from the UK. In 2019, during his first term, he met with Queen Elizabeth II.
