Deadly storms result in the loss of 16 lives, among them children – DW – 04/06/2025

Storms in the central-eastern United States have resulted in at least 16 deaths, including children. The National Weather Service warns of more severe flash flooding in the coming days. The storms have caused significant damage, including building destruction, roadway flooding, and numerous tornadoes across Arkansas to Ohio. Tennessee experienced the worst impact, with ten fatalities reported in the western part of the state. Kentucky saw two deaths due to flooding, including a nine-year-old child who was swept away while walking to a bus stop. Widespread damage has been observed in several states, with homes, trees, power lines, and cars affected by the storms. The National Weather Service urges caution, stating that lives and property are in danger. Further storm-related deaths have been reported in Missouri and Indiana. A five-year-old was found dead in Arkansas in connection to the severe weather. Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky urges residents to avoid travel and avoid driving through water. Over 100,000 people are without power in Arkansas and Tennessee. The National Weather Service also warns of potential tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in certain regions.
