Police and prosecutors are currently investigating the cause of death of a 35-year-old woman who died during or after a visit with her husband at Burg Prison in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The woman’s 37-year-old husband has been charged with manslaughter, as prosecutors believe that he killed her during an unsupervised meeting in a designated visitor space that allows privacy for inmates and their families. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, with results expected early next week. Burg Prison, operated as a public-private partnership, is Saxony-Anhalt’s largest correctional facility and houses up to 650 male prisoners. Built in 2009, it is considered one of the most modern maximum protection correctional facilities in Germany.
