Zelenskyy announced the trip in his evening video address on Wednesday night and the scheduled meeting was confirmed by US special envoy Steve Witkoff.
“Everyone working on the substance of the security guarantees will be involved: the military, political, and economic component,” Zelenskyy said.
“The task is to move as fast as possible, so that this too becomes a lever, a lever of influence. The Russians must see the seriousness of the world’s resolve and how severe the consequences will be for Russia if the war continues,” he added.
Zelenskyy once again accused Russia of being unwilling to negotiate, thereby breaking promises made to US President Donald Trump.
In the event of a ceasefire or peace deal, Ukraine is seeking concrete security guarantees against future Russian aggression.
European countries, including the United Kingdom and France, have pledged to deploy troops to Ukraine in a non-NATO peacekeeping role, while the United States has signaled its willingness to support such a deployment with air power and military intelligence.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has categorically rejected any proposals to deploy NATO troops to Ukraine.
