Kamchatka’s emergency minister, Sergei Lebedev, reported tsunami waves of 3-4 meters in certain parts of the region, advising inhabitants to distance themselves from the shoreline.
Kamchatka, located in Russia’s Far East, along with Japan, is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone known for intense seismic activity and volcanic eruptions. In 2011, Japan experienced a magnitude-9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, leading to the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
