Elon Musk Accuses X of Being Targeted by Significant Cyber Attack – DW – November 3, 2025

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, on Monday announced that the social media platform had been hit by a “massive cyberattack” following outages that left it inaccessible to thousands of users.

In a tweet, Musk stated, “There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X.” He went on to say, “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”

Musk later claimed in an interview with Fox Business that the systems used in the alleged attack were found to have IP addresses originating from Ukraine, though he initially failed to provide any evidence for this claim. However, cybersecurity experts pointed out that this does not necessarily mean the attack originated in Ukraine.

At the height of the outage, around 10 a.m. US East Coast time (2 p.m. UTC) on Monday, nearly 40,000 users reported experiencing problems with X, according to Downdetector.com. The number of affected users fluctuated before eventually decreasing.

Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform in 2022, X, formerly known as Twitter, has experienced several technical issues.
