Leaders from the EU's 27 member states are meeting in Brussels to discuss further support for Ukraine in the <a class="internal-link" href="https://www.dw.com/en/russias-war-in-ukraine/t-60931789">war with Russia</a>.
Ukrainian President <a class="internal-link" href="https://www.dw.com/en/volodymyr-zelenskyy/t-65603134">Volodymyr Zelenskyy</a> is set to open the summit with a speech delivered via videolink.
The bloc's members, with the exception of Hungary, are expected to agree to a text which backs Ukrainian independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and urges Russia to "show real political will" to end the conflict.
EU leaders are also set to address European Commission proposals to boost military spending and buy more European arms.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Wednesday that she would present a proposal to provide Kyiv with 2 million rounds of large-caliber artillery ammunition for its defense.

The summit comes a day after US President Donald Trump held a phone call with Zelenskyy, in which the <a class="internal-link" href="https://www.dw.com/en/ukraine-updates-zelenskyy-agrees-to-partial-ceasefire/live-71969048">Ukrainian leader agreed to a "partial ceasefire"</a> that could see energy infrastructure spared from attacks.
It was their first conversation since a disastrous exchange in the Oval Office at the end of last month.
