She operates a poultry farm to support herself and her 18-year-old daughter, Blessiya, emphasizing her main goal of ensuring her daughter leads a fulfilling life without societal stigma. Ranjini, who surrendered before the war’s end in 2009 and spent a year in a rehabilitation camp, laments how former female combatants face distrust and isolation upon returning to society. She believes their silent struggle should be more recognized, particularly the valuable skills they developed during the conflict that are not adequately acknowledged or utilized in peacetime.

The universal effects of the war, including economic challenges and psychological impacts, are felt deeply by former fighters. According to Ranjini and other former combatants like Kalaiselvi Jayakumar, the lack of formal education and economic opportunities post-conflict makes reintegration difficult. The broader economic crisis and political situation in Sri Lanka have only exacerbated these issues. Sivanathan Navindra, a former LTTE member, expresses hope that political activities and upcoming elections could lead to progress and better representation for the Tamil minority.
