On Saturday, following a court order, South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was released from detention. Television footage captured Yoon waving and bowing to his supporters as he left the detention center in Seoul. In a statement released by his lawyers, Yoon expressed his gratitude to the nation’s people and thanked the court for correcting the illegality. In January, Yoon was arrested and charged by prosecutors for his decision to declare martial law in December, which caused political turmoil in the country. The Constitutional Court is currently determining whether to reinstate Yoon or remove him from office.
