American actor Gene Hackman, who had a career spanning several decades and won two Academy Awards, was discovered deceased on Wednesday alongside his 63-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, in their New Mexico residence, according to police.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office acknowledged the deaths, stating there were no signs of any criminal activity involved. They also noted that the couple’s pet dog was found dead.

Authorities located Hackman and Arakawa at 1:45 am local time following a request to perform a welfare check.

Hackman was awarded the Oscar for Best Actor in 1972 for his portrayal of Detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in “The French Connection” and later won as Best Supporting Actor for his role in Clint Eastwood’s 1992 Western film, “Unforgiven.”
