In a show of unity, all five parties in Greenland’s parliament have firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s overtures to control the strategically significant Arctic territory

“We, all party leaders, find these repeated statements of annexation and control of Greenland to be deeply troubling,” the parties asserted in a collectiveFacebook post. “Such actions are unthinkable to our allies and friends within our defense pact.”

This rejection follows Trump’s reiteration of his interest in acquiring Greenland during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte

Greenland, an autonomous land of approximately 57,000 residents, most of whom are indigenous Inuit, is part of Denmark, a NATO ally of the United States.
