Storms have caused destruction and claimed at least 17 lives, including children, in the central-eastern United States, according to local officials. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for potential severe flash flooding in the coming days. Damage from the storms has stretched from Arkansas to Ohio, causing buildings to be destroyed, roads to become flooded, and a number of tornadoes to occur. Tennessee was the hardest hit, with 10 fatalities reported. Two deaths were also confirmed in Kentucky, including a nine-year-old child who was swept away by floodwaters on their way to a bus stop. The National Weather Service has predicted further severe flash flooding in parts of the central-eastern region, and has warned locals to avoid traveling and to not drive through floodwaters. As of now, more than 100,000 people in Arkansas and Tennessee are without power.
