Herbert Bopp, a German living in Canada, has announced that he won’t be traveling to the USA in the near future due to his disagreement with President Trump’s policies. Bopp, among other concerns, points out Trump’s attempts to make Canada the 51st US state, insulting the Canadian prime minister, and attacks on symbols of Canadian identity such as maple syrup. This stance has prompted Bopp to refuse spending his Canadian dollars in the US as a form of protest against Trump. This sentiment is mirrored by a drop in Canadian travelers to the US, with February showing a 23% decrease compared to the previous year. Despite the declining interest in the US among some foreign travelers, the country is preparing for a potential tourism boom in the coming years, with major events like the FIFA World Cup in 2026, the Summer Olympics in 2028, and the Rugby World Cup in 2031 on the horizon. However, Trump’s strict visa and entry policies, along with instances of German citizens being detained upon entry, have released travel advisories warning of potential risks for travelers to the US.
