Incident at major Nigerian oil pipeline results in explosion – DW | 18.03.2025

A segment of the Trans-Niger Pipeline, one of Nigeria’s largest pipelines, experienced a catastrophic explosion, as conveyed by media reports on Tuesday.

This pipeline is instrumental for the transportation of oil in the Niger Delta, a significant oil-producing region in the nation. It facilitates the movement of over 450,000 barrels of oil daily, primarily to the Bonny Terminal situated in the federal state of Rivers.

Despite the unclear origin of the explosion, local media speculates that it may be linked to threats issued by militant groups targeting oil production facilities.
