On Tuesday, the Indian and Pakistani armies engaged in a firefight following an attempt by armed individuals to cross into the Poonch district of the northern Jammu and Kashmir region, as reported by Indian Army officials on Wednesday. A mine detonation was triggered in the Krishna Ghati Sector during the incursion attempt from across the border, which was subsequently followed by unprovoked firing and a breach of the ceasefire by the Pakistan Army.

In their statement, the Indian Army confirmed that the situation is under control and is being closely monitored. The statement also called for the adherence to the ceasefire agreement that was renewed between the two countries on February 25, 2021, aiming to maintain peace along the Line of Control (LoC).

Additionally, Indian security forces have stepped up their operations in the Panjtirthi region of Jammu, following an encounter with militants on March 31.

Lastly, there has been an ongoing conflict in the region, which has been plagued by violent clashes for decades, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives. India and Pakistan both claim ownership of the strategic Himalayan region of Kashmir, although different sections are currently under the administration of India, Pakistan, and China. The issue of Kashmir is also a contentious topic with different viewpoints on the nature of the conflict.
