A judge in Australia sentenced Erin Patterson to life in prison for triple murder and gave a non-parole period of 33 years for poisoning her estranged husband’s four relatives with death cap mushrooms. Three out of four of the relatives died. The sole survivor, Ian Wilkinson, stated that Patterson’s actions left him “half alive” and unable to participate fully in life. Despite this, Wilkinson urged Patterson to confess and forgive her. The motive for the murders remains a mystery, and Patterson maintains her innocence. The case garnered international attention and is known as the “mushroom murders.”
