Memorial Service Honors Dozens of Iranian Military Leaders and Others Killed in Israeli Strikes

Thousands of people convened in Tehran, Iran, over the weekend for a state funeral honoring dozens of military officials, journalists, and a nuclear scientist killed in Israeli military operations.

Among the approximately 60 individuals memorialized were Chief of Staff General Mohammad Bagheri, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) General Hossein Salami, and Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, who headed the IRGC’s aerospace division.

President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, along with top government officials and military leaders, participated in the ceremony.

Ali Shamkhani, a senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, who was injured in the Israeli attacks, also attended the ceremony, using a walking aid, as shown by state television.

In the span of 12 days starting June 13, Israeli attacks resulted in the deaths of over 30 high-ranking military officials, some of whom were killed in their residences.

Out of the 60 individuals to be laid to rest following the ceremony, four were children and four were women.

Israel has stated that its attacks on Iran were intended to prevent Tehran from posing a nuclear threat to its security.
