In response to a proposal by Steve Witcoff, the US envoy to the Middle East, the Israeli government has agreed to extend the temporary ceasefire in Gaza through Ramadan and the Jewish Passover festival. The extension will include the release of half of the remaining hostages, both alive and dead, currently held in Gaza. Witcoff proposed the extension after realizing more time is needed for talks on a permanent ceasefire. The Muslim holy month of Ramadan started this weekend and continues through March 30, while Passover begins on the evening of April 12 and ends on April 20.
