US to revoke visas of some Chinese students in ‘critical fields’
Rubio made the announcement in a post on X, stating that the government would “aggressively” revoke visas for students from China.
China is the second-largest source of international students in the US, trailing only India. In the 2023-2024 academic year, over 270,000 students came from China, accounting for nearly a quarter of all foreign students in the US.
Earlier this week, Rubio suspended the scheduling of new visa interviews for international students as the State Department prepares guidelines for increased vetting of their social media activity.

Court blocks Trump’s global tariffs
Trump declared comprehensive tariffs on April 2, creating waves of global trade uncertainty.
The ruling by a three-judge panel of the Court of International Trade in New York followed several lawsuits claiming that Trump had exceeded his authority, left trade policy at the mercy of his personal preferences, and unleashed economic havoc.
The Trump administration is expected to appeal the ruling.
Typically, US tariffs must be approved by Congress; however, the president has claimed the authority to act by declaring the nation’s trade deficits a national emergency.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of five small businesses that import goods from countries targeted by the tariffs, represents the first major legal challenge to Trump’s tariffs.
