Russia should face ‘strong action’ if ceasefire is not reached, France’s Macron says
Macron took to his X account to say that Russia continued to “murder children and civilians,” and that a ceasefire in the war in Ukraine “is needed as soon as possible.
“Russia is continuing the war with renewed intensity,” Macron said, adding the country has “no regard for civilians.
This comes in light of the killing of nine children through a Russian rocket that hit the town of Kryvyi Rih on Friday, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown, with the youngest victim being a three-year-old boy. Eleven more people were killed in the attack on the residential area.

Russia claims to have captured 2 Ukrainian villages
Russia claimed it had captured two villages in eastern and southern Ukraine, as it continued to press ahead with its advance as efforts for a ceasefire by US President Donald Trump continue to stumble.
The defence ministry said Moscow’s forces captured the village of Shchebraki in the southern Zaporizhzhia region and Panteleimonivka in the eastern Donetsk region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that Russia had launched more than 170 drones into Ukraine overnight, striking several regions including Kyiv, Sumy and Kharkiv.
He said four people were killed in Dnipro, where a strike hit a hotel complex, and 21 others were injured, including a pregnant woman.
“Russia is making a mockery of peacekeeping efforts around the world. It is dragging out the war and sowing terror because it still feels no real pressure,” Zelenskyy said.
For several weeks, the US has been trying to negotiate a ceasefire covering the Black Sea and strikes targeting energy infrastructure in both nations.
Although both countries agreed to truces in principle, their implementation remains unclear, with Kyiv and Moscow accusing each other of seeking to derail the agreements.

Zelenskyy says overnight attacks ‘increasing’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an increase in overnight Russian attacks meant that not enough international pressure was being put on Moscow.
“The number of air attacks is increasing,” the Ukrainian president wrote on Facebook. “The pressure on Russia is still insufficient, and the daily Russian strikes on Ukraine prove it,” Zelenskyy said.
His comments come in the wake of missile and drone attacks across the country for the past several days, including attacks on the capital Kyiv.
Zelenskyy said that over the past week, Russia has launched more than 1,460 guided aerial bombs, nearly 670 attack drones, and over 30 missiles of various types on his country.
Russia “intends to continue the war and the killing. That is why there can be no easing of pressure,” the president said. “All efforts must be aimed at guaranteeing security and bringing peace closer,” the Ukrainian president added.

Kyiv hit by Russian missiles: mayor
Ukraine’s capital Kyiv was attacked early on Sunday morning by Russian missiles injuring at least three, the city’s mayor said.
“Explosions in the capital. Air defense is in operation. The missile attack on Kyiv continues. Stay in shelters!” Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.
He said fires had broken out in some non-residential buildings and some cars were on fire. Paramedics from two districts were sent to the sites.
The Ukrainian air force said missiles had also entered the Chernihiv region in the north. There were also reports of Moscow hitting targets across Ukraine from Saturday evening.
At least two residential buildings in the southern city of Mykolaiv were hit by Russian drones, the local administration said.
On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyrr Zelenskyy urged the world not to stay silent after his hometown Kryvyi Rih was attacked, killing 18. He said the response from the US was “surprisingly disappointing.”

Welcome to our coverage
The Ukrainian capital Kyiv was under attack early Sunday, causing several fires and leaving at least three people injured. It comes two days after a Russian strike killed 18 people in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown.
Poland’s military said it and allied forces scrambled their aircrafts in response to Russian strikes across the border in western Ukraine, keeping its ground-based air defence systems on high alert.
As Russia continues daily attacks on Ukraine, US President Donald Trump is still pushing for a partial ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
