Judge Susan Crawford, supported by the Democratic Party, emerged victorious in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race on Tuesday. Her win maintained the liberal majority in the first significant election of the United States during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Crawford defeated conservative Republican Brad Schimel after Elon Musk invested $21 million (€19.4 million) in the campaign, including direct payments to voters, an action that has raised concerns regarding its legality.

“Wisconsinites have successfully fended off an unparalleled assault on our democracy, fair elections, and Supreme Court,” Crawford stated after her victory. “Wisconsin has loudly proclaimed that justice is beyond the reach of price tags, and our courts are not for sale.”

Consideration of cases involving abortion rights and voter redistricting was a focal point in the election, making it a significant indicator of national issues.
