This forced the 38-year-old captain of Inter Miami to leave the game. The injury occurred in the 11th minute when Messi collided with Necaxa defender Alexis Pena and fell to the ground. He then sat alone in the midfield, waiting for trainers to arrive. As Inter Miami completed the game with a 2-2 draw, manager Javier Mascherano stated that Messi experienced “hamstring discomfort” and the severity of the injury would be assessed the following day.
