The technology giant announced this change in a blog post on Thursday, as part of its broader initiative to enhance the resilience of the Windows operating system.
“Navigating unexpected restarts and recovering more rapidly is now easier than ever,” the company stated.
Microsoft’s efforts come in response to the 2024 Crowdstike incident, which resulted in a widespread IT outage affecting millions of Windows systems globally.
Latest Updates
The “Blue Screen of Death” or Blue Screen error was shown when a severe issue forced Windows to shut down or restart unexpectedly to prevent data loss.
The company has announced plans to “streamline” the experience for users encountering such unexpected restarts that disrupt their operations.
These improvements involve redesigning the error screen that has frustrated users for over 40 years.
The new error message features concise text on a black background.
“Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart,” is what the updated message will convey, as depicted in an image Microsoft shared in its blog.
The accompaniment of a sad face icon has been dropped in favor of displaying a percentage indicating the progress of the restart process.
This revamped user interface for handling unexpected restarts will be available on all Windows 11 (version 24H2) devices starting this summer, according to Microsoft.
