On Thursday, party leaders announced that Austria’s center-right People’s Party (ÖVP), center-left Social Democrats (SPÖ), and the liberal Neos party have agreed to form a government. This will be the first three-party coalition in the country since the 1940s.
The coalition agreement excludes the far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ), who won the highest share of votes at 28.8% in September’s election. Although the FPÖ attempted to establish a government, coalition negotiations fell through in December.
