The 30-year-old Leon Goretzka, who has not represented Germany since November 2023 and missed the UEFA Euro 2024, has been selected for the national team by coach Julian Nagelsmann. Goretzka’s inclusion comes after his impressive form for Bayern Munich and the need for replacements due to injuries and illnesses among other players.
Nagelsmann acknowledged the absence of several key players but stated that he is confident in the squad’s quality and the selected replacements. Inter Milan’s Yann Aurel Bisseck has been called up for the first time, and Nadiem Amiri is set to return to the team after a four-year absence.
Germany will face Italy in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals on March 20 and 23. The winner of the quarterfinals will host the UEFA Nations League Final Four in June, with the final to be held on June 8. (Edited by: Kyle McKinnon)
