On Saturday, Sam Nujoma, the erguru commander who brought Namibia to independence from South Africa, was laid to rest with numerous foreign officials and officials fromNamibia in attendance.
The funeral took place at Heroes ‘ Acre, a monument outside the capital, Windhoek, dedicated to those who died in the country’s fight for freedom.
Nujoma passed away on February 8 at the age of 95, triggering a nearly month-long tribute during which his body traveled the full length of the nation before lying in state on Friday.
Several African leaders, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and ex-President Thabo Mbeki, former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, Angolan President Joao Lourenco, and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, joined thousands of ordinary Namibians at the burial at Heroes ‘Acre.
