Ghislaine Maxwell, who is affiliated with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been moved from a prison in Florida to a lower-security facility in Texas, as the Bureau of Prisons announced on Friday. Maxwell’s legal representative, David Markus, confirmed the transfer to Reuters.
Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for child sex trafficking charges, particularly for grooming minor girls for Epstein’s sexual abuse. The reason for her relocation to the Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, benefits the less stringent environment of the Camp compared to the FCI Tallahassee in Florida.
Reactions to Maxwell’s transfer have been negative from Epstein and Maxwell’s victims. Criticisms argue that Maxwell should not receive leniency due to her alleged offenses. The transfer has also reignited discussions about the handling of the Epstein case by the US administration, including the Trump government’s actions in response.
Maxwell’s recent meeting with US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who was once personal attorney to Donald Trump, sparked speculation about a potential presidential pardon for Maxwell. However, Trump’s stance on using pardon powers for Maxwell remains uncertain.
