Pope Francis sent out a message on Sunday advocating for global peace, which the Vatican released. This was in lieu of his usual Sunday prayer for pilgrims since he has been receiving treatment for severe double pneumonia.
The 88-year-old pontiff asked for prayers for global conflicts, particularly in areas such as Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan, and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo region of Kivu.
Pope Francis has been hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital since mid-February, missing his third consecutive Sunday prayer at Saint Peter’s Square. He expressed gratitude for the well-wishes for his recovery.
The Vatican reported that the Pope had a stable night and is currently resting. His health saw a temporary decline last Friday, leading to an isolated breathing crisis that required non-invasive, mechanical ventilation.
Since taking office in March 2013, this marked the fourth hospitalization for Pope Francis, who has been leading the Catholic Church from the hospital and will be facing his longest absence from the public due to health issues.
