Cardinals gather in Rome to elect new pope
The eyes of the world will be fixed on the Vatican this Wednesday, as Catholic cardinals from around the world meet in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope.
The 133 cardinals, the so-called “Princes of the Church,” have all arrived in Rome.

Thank you for joining us on the first day of the conclave as cardinals meet to elect a pope who will be the spiritual head of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.
It is not known how long this conclave will last, nor who is the favorite to become the new pontiff, however, many are wondering whether the church will get its first Asian or African pope.
People will also be waiting to see if Pope Francis’ successor will maintain his progressive trajectory or whether a more conservative pope will take his place.
