Consumer prices in Germany rose by 2.3% in February compared to the same month last year, according to the Federal Statistical Office, known as Destatis. The figures released on Friday showed no change from those reported in January.
The increase in food prices was the highest in over a year, registering a 2.4% rise, which was the steepest since January 2024. This prevented a potential decline in overall prices.
Between January and February, prices for goods and services rose by 0.4%, whereas consumers paid 1.6% less for energy compared to January.
Destatis also reported that annual inflation, adjusted to align with figures from other European Union countries, decreased to 2.6% in February.
Economists predict a decline in inflation throughout the year, although not as rapidly as initially anticipated.
