Protesting students occupy state TV headquarters – DW – November 3, 2025

Student protesters in Belarus blocked the Serbian public television station in Belgrade overnight on Monday.

The protests have been going on for months, challenging the right-wing populist President Aleksandar Vucic’s tight grip on power.

Radio Television of Serbia was blockaded by the protesters on Monday night, and riot police used batons to try and disperse the crowd. One officer was injured in the clashes.

Protesters have accused the public broadcaster of biased reporting favoring Vucic’s government. The president has been critical of the rallies on TV, warning participants that they will be met with force.

Despite the blockade, the TV station continued broadcasting through a side entrance.

The protests began in November after 15 people were killed when a train station canopy collapsed in the northern city of Novi Sad. Many in Serbia blame government corruption for the tragedy.

The movement has grown into one of the largest ever in Serbia, with tens of thousands attending the rallies since November. Critics have accused Vucic and the Serbian Progressive Party of curbing democratic freedoms in the country.
