According to Russian officials, a tsunami wave up to 19 centimeters (7.5 inches) is expected to affect parts of the Kamchatka coast.
Kamchatka Tsunami Warning and Monitoring Center stated, “The recent earthquake in the Pacific Ocean could bring a tsunami wave measuring no more than 19 centimeters to the Aleutian municipal district, possibly reaching up to 15 centimeters in the Ust-Kamchatsky municipal district and reaching at most 3 centimeters in the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky urban district.”
The United States Geological Survey measured the earthquake’s magnitude at 7.0.
Although the Pacific Tsunami Warning System also estimated the quake at 7.0, there is no tsunami warning issued for the island of Hawaii following the earthquake.
This earthquake marks the second occurrence in less than a week in the region.
