Search for suspects ongoing following discovery of three deceased individuals – DW – 04/06/2025

In the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, law enforcement authorities are on the lookout for a suspect responsible for the tragic deaths of three individuals in the Westerwald area.

As per a statement from a police spokesperson, the search operation has yet to bear fruit.

The victims include two men and a woman whose bodies were recovered at a residence in Weitefeld, a town situated approximately 30 kilometers—or nearly 19 miles—from the city of Siegen.

According to the spokesperson, it is believed that the motive behind the killings is "family-related," with the local mayor, Karl-Heinz Keßler, confirming that both the victims and the alleged perpetrator have been longtime residents of Weitefeld.

Victim May Have Reached Out to Police?

Police records indicate that an emergency call was placed at 03:45 in the early hours from a woman reporting a violent episode, and it is possible that one of the victims was the one who made the call. Additionally, authorities from German public broadcaster SWR have reported evidence suggesting the use of a firearm and a stabbing instrument.

The current focus of the investigation is on an individual witnessed leaving the scene shortly after the police arrived.

As a precaution, the 2,000 residents of Weitefeld, along with those in neighboring towns, are advised by police to remain indoors, keep their windows closed, and avoid giving rides to strangers. Nonetheless, authorities have stated that there is no "imminent danger" to the public.
