Evidence of soldiers present within the damaged palace has been shared on various social media platforms through videos and photographs.
It was stated on Thursday that SAF troops had managed to move within a short distance of the palace, which had previously been captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), almost two years prior.
AFP reports, quoting a military source, inform about SAF destroying an RSF convoy of 30 vehicles that was attempting to retreat southwards.
SAF has been consistently advancing against the RSF and claims to have regained control of the capital city, Khartoum.
The conflict, which began in April 2023, sees army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in opposition to his ex-deputy and the head of RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
Over the course of nearly two years of combat, the fighting has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and the displacement of millions.
